In the 321 to 105 vote on March 18, 2009 the House voted to expand the AmeriCorps National Service organization. This bill will cost the taxpayer more than $1 billion per year for the next five years. AmeriCorps "volunteers" receive stipends for their work between $11,000 to $23,000 per year. Last time I checked, "volunteers" were not financially compensated.

Stem Cell research has been a hot topic for quite a while now. After the resent overturn of George W. Bush's policy which significantly limited the use of federal funding for research, President Obama has done more of what he calls restoring science to its place.
"Obama has left it up to the National Institutes of Health to control what scientists can do with federal money and opponents of embryonic stem cell research fear the NIH could open up the possibilities."
I'm sure science has never stepped over the moral line before just because the name of science and the greater good.
